I hit the pavement unexpectedly today. I ran yesterday and typically avoid running back-to-back days until a 3-mile run doesn't make me feel like I'm going to hurl.
The 5-yo and 4-yo both had soccer games this morning and we had hiked out to the soccer field, hauling water bottles, soccer balls, post-game snacks, baby bjorns, umbrellas, extra soccer jerseys and, oh yeah, 4 children....not once, but twice. It was enough to make me feel like I had been the one playing the games. We had returned from the soccer marathon and I lounged on the couch trying to ignore the laundry that was beckoning my name louder and louder. I knew if I sat any longer, I would fall asleep and I am NOT a napper (somewhere during the nap, I morph from Sleepy Dwarf into Grumpy Dwarf and I wish I knew why). But, the boys, count 'em, all 4, were napping upstairs so the timing was perfect. I dug deep for a little surge of energy to get off the couch and went upstairs to put on my running clothes.
The weather was perfectly fall....cloudy, cool with the smell of a crisp rain in the air. A sublime running day. It felt like I had the road to myself as most normal people were using the first cool weekend since the spring to stay indoors, under blankets, sipping hot chocolate by the fire. I took off on an old, familiar loop with some Sugarland tunes in my ears and my body slowly began to wake up. By the time I got back to my driveway, I felt alive and ready to take on the rest of the day. I was even inspired to go to the grocery store to make homemade pizzas for a college football pizza party picnic with my little family. And maybe throw in a little laundry for good measure. Take that, nap.

Courtney I ran 18 miles this morning and the thought of you running at that point in the day almost made me a little nauseated! You rule for the drive and ambition!!!!!!! Kudos!
